Choosing the right Haws can to give as a gift

A number of Haws cans are supplied in a gift box as standard. This article covers which products those are, and some practical considerations for choosing one as a gift.

Which Haws cans come gift-boxed?

The following cans are supplied in a gift box as standard:

Outdoor cans

The Warley Fall — one gallon and two gallon, in both painted galvanised steel and HDG

The Bearwood Brook — one gallon and two gallon

The Hockley Heritage HDG — two gallon

Indoor cans

The Rowley Ripple — two pint, in copper, brass, and painted galvanised steel

The Fazeley Flow — one pint and two pint, in copper, brass, and painted galvanised steel

The Cradley Cascader Deluxe — 1.5 gallon

If you're buying a can as a gift and presentation matters, check that the product you're choosing is one of the above. Not all Haws cans are supplied in a gift box.

Choosing the right can for the person

The most useful question is: where and how does this person water?

For someone who gardens outdoors — borders, containers, raised beds — the Warley Fall or Bearwood Brook is a practical choice. The Warley Fall in one gallon is manageable for most gardeners. The Bearwood Brook in one gallon offers the same capacity with a different spout geometry and higher flow. Both come in more than one colour.

For someone who grows houseplants — the Rowley Ripple or Fazeley Flow are the natural choices. Both are indoor-scale cans in copper, brass, or painted steel. The Rowley Ripple has a rose fitted as standard. The Fazeley Flow does not — it's designed for a direct pour, with a slash-cut spout that reduces dripping.

For someone who does both — the Cradley Cascader Deluxe offers the practicality of a plastic outdoor can in a gift-boxed presentation, with a brass ferrule and a supplied rose.

A note on can size as a gift

Capacity is a practical attribute and it's worth thinking about briefly. A two-gallon can is a generous gift, but it holds nearly nine kilograms of water when full. If you're not certain the person will be comfortable lifting and pouring that weight — in a sustained outdoor session — a one-gallon option is a more considered choice.

For indoor gifting, the two-pint scale is right for most recipients. It's lightweight, easy to use, and proportional to most indoor plant collections.

Colour and finish

Haws cans are available in a range of colours. Colour choice is a personal decision, and the article map doesn't attempt to guide it. What's worth noting is that HDG cans have a natural metallic finish rather than a painted colour — the surface is zinc, and it changes gradually over time. If you're buying for someone who prefers a consistent surface finish, a painted can may be a more predictable choice.
